Long distance: Russians and Swedes dominated podium places

Tove Alexandersson took yet another remarkable victory in today’s long distance competition. She was very satisfied to her race and altough it was a mass start she didn’t see other athletes during the competition. Mariya Kechkina from Russia was second and Polina Frolova, also from Russia, was third.

Eduard Khrennikov from Russia and Ulrik Nordberg from Sweden had a tight battle, but in the end Khrennikov was stronger and won the competition. Continued →

Alexandersson and Lamov middle distance winners

Tove Alexandersson from Sweden had an amazing race in Ylläs. She was three minutes faster than the next athlete, Mariya Kechkina from Russia. Sonja Mörsky, who had a difficult last season, is now back in the business and took the third place in women’s middle distance competition.

Russian athlete Andrey Lamov was leading almost from the very beginning and thought that he made good route choices. Continued →

A clear victory for Team Sweden

Ulrik Nordberg and Tove Alexandersson from Team Sweden won today’s sprint relay with over one minute gap to a second team. Team Finland 1 with Ville-Petteri Saarela and Salla Koskela was second and team Russia 2 with Vladimir Barchukov and Mariya Kechkina third.

Tight races – Oborina and Nordberg sprint winners

Time difference between top six athletes in women’s sprint was 18 seconds, so completion was tight as it’s often the case in sprint distances. Russian athletes Tatyana Oborinaand Mariya Kechkina had good races and they took the first and the second place. Milka Reponen from Finland was third.

High expectations for the World Cup in Ylläs

The IOF Ski Orienteering Commission may provide one “wild card” to add a further top athlete without sufficient number of ranking points into start group 3. Ski Orienteering World Cup opening round to take place in Ylläs from 26 November till 2 December 2015 has attracted a wide range of athletes from 14 countries. For sure, there will be tight competitions, as many world ranking top ten athletes will be present in Ylläs. Continued →

We got snow!

”We are delighted to inform that there is already 30 – 40 cm snow in all parts of Ylläs competition terrains and the track making has been now going on for three days.” says the Chief of the Course Setting Team Velu Sipola.
